1. A method of scanning a part using a three-dimensional (3D) scanning system, the method comprising:
positioning a scanning fixture in an initial position relative and adjacent to the part within a field of view of a sensor of the 3D scanning system, the scanning fixture having a plurality of markers thereon, and maintaining the scanning fixture in a fixed position relative to the part; and
acquiring, by the 3D scanning system, scanned part data and spatial coordinates of the plurality of markers of the scanning fixture, the spatial coordinates of the markers providing digitization reference points; and
performing a compensation or transformation of the scanned part data, using the digitization reference points, to generate compensated part data; and
following the acquiring, displacing the scanning fixture away from the initial position of the scanning fixture relative the part, and removing the part from the field of view of the 3D scanning system.
