1. A method of selecting and implementing a function selectable by a custom button by a user in a vehicle, utilizing an on-board system controller, the on-board system controller comprising a processor and a memory, the method comprising the operations of:
identifying a first pressing of the custom button for a first time period, the custom button being at least one of: on a steering wheel of the vehicle as a steering wheel button, or below a display panel of the vehicle as a first custom button;
receiving a selection of the function from the display panel of the vehicle, a second pressing of the first custom button for the first time period defining the function and a third pressing of the first custom button for a second time period redefining the function, wherein the second time period is greater than the first time period;
linking the function to the custom button;
automatically implementing the function subsequently pressing of the custom button for a fourth time period, and
further comprising another custom button being displayed on the display panel as a second custom button, wherein, when the second custom button is pressed for the first time period by the user while driving, the function from the display panel is selectable by the user and is linked to the second custom button, such that, when the user subsequently presses the second custom button for the first time period, the function is automatically implemented.
