1. A method for culturing cells in a three-dimensional structure, the method comprising:
(a) depositing a plurality of cells in a three-dimensional growth medium; and
(b) incubating the plurality of cells in the three-dimensional growth medium;
wherein the three-dimensional growth medium comprises a granular gel comprising a plurality of hydrogel particles swollen with a liquid cell culture medium; and
wherein the three-dimensional growth medium maintains a spatial position of the plurality of cells following the depositing, forming the three-dimensional structure.
