1. A process for the preparation of non-fibrous alkaline titanates comprising: melting alkaline titanate in a furnace at a temperature ranging from 1300° C. to 1500° C., to form a molten product; and cooling said molten product by contacting said molten product at a temperature of 1300° C. to 1500° C. with liquid water or liquid nitrogen having a temperature equal to or lower than 15° C.
