18. A display assembly with improved airflow, said display assembly comprising:
a frame configured for mounting to a ground surface or a structure;
a side assembly connected to said frame and comprising:
a cover;
a display layer comprising liquid crystals located rearward of the cover;
a rear surface;
a backlight located rearward of the display layer;
a rear surface located rearward of the backlight; and
a channel extending longitudinally along the rear surface at a first side thereof;
an interior channel defined, at least in part, by the backlight and the rear surface such that the interior channel extends, in part, along a rear portion of the backlight;
a rear compartment defined, at least in part, by the rear surface;
a front gap defined, at least in part, by a space between the cover and the display layer;
an intake provided at an upper portion of the side assembly;
an exhaust provided at a lower portion of the side assembly;
an open airflow pathway connected to an ambient environment and including the intake, the interior channel, and the exhaust;
a closed airflow pathway fluidly separated from the ambient environment and the open airflow pathway, said closed airflow pathway including the front gap and the rear compartment;
a first set of fans provided at, and spaced apart along, a second side of the rear surface, and thereby within the rear compartment, wherein the first set of fans comprise shroud-less, centrifugal type fans, and wherein the first set of fans, when activated, move circulating gas within the closed airflow pathway;
a second set of fans provided at, and spaced apart along, the exhaust for moving ambient air within the open airflow pathway, when activated, wherein the second set of fans comprise shroud-less, centrifugal type fans; and
electronics for operating the electronic display subassemblies located within the rear compartment, including at the rear surface, said electronics comprising one or more of: a processor, an electronic storage device, a computing device, a network connectivity device, a computing device, a video player, and a power module;
wherein the first set of fans are arranged at the rear surface such that an intake portion is oriented on a z-axis relative to a viewing face of the side assembly to ingest the circulating gas from the front gap and an exhaust portion is arranged to direct the circulating gas ingested into the first set of fans outward in an x-y plane relative to the viewing face of the side assembly within the rear compartment, when activated;
wherein the second set of fans are arranged at the exhaust such that an intake portion is oriented on the z-axis relative to the viewing face of the side assembly to ingest the ambient air from the interior channel and an exhaust portion is arranged to direct the ambient air ingested to the second set of fans outward in the x-y plane relative to the viewing face of the side assembly, when activated; and
wherein the closed airflow pathway is fluidly separated from the ambient environment and the open airflow pathway in accordance with at least ingress protection code IP65 or more well sealed.
