1. A weightlifting machine comprising:
a carriage support comprising a vertical rail extending upward and defining a track;
a carriage moveably mounted on the vertical rail of the carriage support and configured to move vertically along the track, wherein the carriage is configured for engaging a weight for resistance against vertical movement during an exercise on the weightlifting machine;
a cable system comprising a cable operably connected to the carriage and extending from the carriage to a cable end configured to be connected to a user-engaging device, such that movement of the cable end by a user during the exercise moves the carriage vertically along the vertical rail via the cable system;
a platform configured to support the user during the exercise; and
a locking mechanism comprising a pivoting body pivotably mounted on a pivot connection, the pivoting body comprising a locking member having an arm extending upward at a first location on the pivoting body and a vertical member extending upward at a second location on the pivoting body spaced from the first location, the locking mechanism further comprising an engagement part mounted on the arm and a handle connected to the vertical member, wherein the pivoting body is pivotable by manipulation of the handle such that the pivoting body, the engagement part, and the handle are configured to pivot together in unison, and wherein the locking mechanism is pivotable between a locking position, where the engagement part engages the carriage and supports the carriage at an elevated position above a lowermost position of the carriage, and a release position, where the engagement part does not engage the carriage, and the carriage is free to move below the elevated position.
