1. A method for administering control over a pet, the method comprising:
detecting a presence of a user device associated with a responsible person in a vicinity of an electronic device associated with the pet;
initiating a handoff of the control over the pet from a first state to a second state associated with the responsible person; and
determining whether to confirm or deny the handoff, wherein:
responsive to a determination to confirm the handoff, the method further comprises updating a record of the control over the pet, and
responsive to a determination to deny the handoff, the method further comprises sending an indication of an error to the user device associated with the responsible person.
