1. A method comprising:
displaying, by a client device, a graphical user interface comprising an interactive map and a fixed location pin for selecting a location for a transportation request within the interactive map;
modifying a view of the interactive map within the graphical user interface by sliding the interactive map relative to the fixed location pin during a continued touch gesture directed to the graphical user interface such that the interactive map appears to move underneath the fixed location pin while the fixed location pin remains in place;
based on modifying the view of the interactive map during the continued touch gesture, determining a distance from a user-selected location indicated by the fixed location pin within the interactive map to a potential location for a transportation event associated with the transportation request; and
in response to detecting a release of the continued touch gesture and based on the distance from the user-selected location and the potential location, generating a location description comprising a description of the potential location for display within the graphical user interface on the client device.
