1. A method of operating a hearing system, the hearing system comprising an ear unit configured to be worn at an ear of a user, an output transducer included in the ear unit and configured to stimulate the user's hearing, and a detector arrangement comprising a plurality of spatially separated sound detectors and configured to provide audio data representative of detected sound, wherein the method comprises:
providing, in a control data provision step, control data based on orientation data generated by a handheld device configured to be held at a hand of the user during changing a spatial orientation of the handheld device, the orientation data indicative of the spatial orientation of the handheld device; and
providing, in a directivity provision step, the audio data with a directivity depending on the control data provided based on the orientation data generated by the handheld device.
