1. A presentation slide creation system that creates presentation slides, comprising:
a presentation slide creation application implemented on a computer using computer readable software instructions stored in non-transient memory, wherein the presentation slide creation application is configured to perform computer-implemented steps comprising:
receiving a user annotation to an excerpt of a portion of a source page from a source document, wherein the source document is in a first file format;
storing a link that is adapted to retrieve the source document;
generating a slide element to be used in a presentation slide in a second file format, different from the first file format, comprising converting (a) the user annotation to an annotation set, and (b) the excerpt and the user annotation set to be the slide element adapted to be used in the presentation slide in the second file format, and, incorporating the link into the slide element to allow the user to select the link;
displaying the presentation slide containing the slide element including the converted excerpt and a representation of the user annotation;
in response to a user selection of the link from the slide element when the slide element is displayed in the presentation slide, displaying the source document opened to the source page including the user annotation to the excerpt on the source page;
displaying an interactive option in which a user selectively assigns a category tag to the portion of the source page;
storing the category tag as part of a plurality of category tags;
providing an interactive display by which the user or another user of the system selects from one of the plurality of category tags; and
responsive to the user's selection of the category tag, retrieving the source page and multiple other source pages based on the category tag to show the source page and other source pages having the category tag assigned to the portion therein.
