1. A computing system, comprising:
a processor;
a communications module coupled to the processor; and
a memory coupled to the processor, the memory storing instructions that, when executed, configure the processor to:
detect a trigger event associated with a data record;
in response to detecting the trigger event, enable an access control for the data record, wherein the trigger event is associated with a respective set of restrictions on accessing the data record and wherein enabling the access control comprises imposing the set of restrictions associated with the detected trigger event;
receive at least one biometric data capture for a user and a digital form of at least one identification document associated with the user;
obtain verification results representing an identity verification status of the user based on a document verification process using the at least one biometric data capture and the digital form;
in response to determining that the verification results satisfy first conditions:
verify user-inputted data based on contents of the at least one identification document; and
in response to the verifying, selectively disable the access control for the data record by disabling a first subset of the imposed restrictions on the data record, wherein selection of the first subset depends on the verification results.
