1. A block formation device for a distributed database system comprising a number of node devices, comprising:
a first unit for selecting a number of transactions to be confirmed from a number of unconfirmed transactions provided in the distributed database system;
a second unit for forming an unconfirmed block from the selected number of unconfirmed transactions, wherein a respective selected unconfirmed transaction is inspected in terms of validity and discarded in the event of a failed inspection, and otherwise is incorporated into the unconfirmed block, and for providing the unconfirmed block in the distributed database system; and
a third unit for receiving a timing cycle from a time source and for determining time slices of a predefined length on the basis of the timing cycle; wherein the first unit and the second unit are configured so as to perform the selection, the formation and the provision exactly once within a respective time slice.
