1. A downhole electric submersible pump (ESP) assembly, comprising:
a hybrid permanent magnet motor (PMM) comprising:
a first drive shaft,
a stator,
a rotor comprising at least one hybrid rotor module, wherein each hybrid rotor module comprises a first permanent magnet element, a second permanent magnet element, and an induction squirrel cage, wherein the rotor is mechanically coupled to the first drive shaft and disposed within the stator,
wherein each hybrid rotor module comprises a plurality of laminations that define a first magnet pocket that extends axially parallel to the first drive shaft and completely encloses a plurality of longitudinal faces of the first permanent magnet element and define a second magnet pocket that extends axially parallel to the first drive shaft and completely encloses a plurality of longitudinal faces of the second permanent magnet element,
wherein the laminations define a first flux barrier, a second flux barrier, a third flux barrier, and a fourth flux barrier, wherein the laminations define a first rib between the first flux barrier and the second flux barrier, and wherein the laminations define a second rib between the third flux barrier and the fourth flux barrier,
wherein the first flux barrier is filled with a first filler rod, the second flux barrier is filled with a second filler rod, the third flux barrier is filled with a third filler rod, and the fourth flux barrier is filled with a fourth filler rod, wherein each of the first filler rod, the second filler rod, the third filler rod, and the fourth filler rod comprises non-magnetic material, and
wherein the first filler rod, the second filler rod, the third filler rod, and the fourth filler rod each defines an open channel that extends axially from a first end of the filler rod to an opposite end of the filler rod;
a seal section having a second drive shaft coupled to the first drive shaft; and
a pump assembly having a third drive shaft coupled to the second drive shaft.
