1. A system for assessing driver behavior of a vehicle, the system comprising:
a vehicle camera system including a vehicle camera configured to produce video data; and
a vehicle telematics device in communication with the vehicle camera system,
wherein the vehicle camera system is configured to execute an analysis application to:
locally analyze the video data produced by the vehicle camera system to detect whether a vehicle event has occurred, and
transmit, in response to detection of the vehicle event, a notification to the vehicle telematics device; and
wherein the vehicle telematics device is configured to execute a vehicle event detection application to:
obtain, in response to receipt of the notification from the vehicle camera system, sensor data from a least one vehicle sensor of the vehicle, wherein the sensor data is non-video sensor data indicative of a characteristic of the vehicle,
locally analyze, in response to receipt of the notification from the vehicle camera system, the sensor data to verify that the vehicle event detected by the vehicle camera system has occurred, and
transmit, in response to verification that the detected event has occurred, a vehicle event message to a remote server system, wherein vehicle event message is configured to notify the remote server system that the vehicle telematics device has detected the vehicle event.
