1. A wound dressing comprising:
a wound contact layer;
a cover layer sealed to the wound contact layer;
an absorbent layer for absorbing wound exudate positioned between the wound contact layer and the cover layer; and
a force shielding layer positioned above the absorbent layer, wherein the force shielding layer is configured for spreading force applied to the wound dressing at a first area over a second area, wherein the second area is larger than the first area;
wherein the force shielding layer is configured to increase the area over which a pressure applied to the dressing is transferred by 25% or more of the initial area of application and
wherein the force shielding layer comprises two cooperating sub-layers.
