1. An apparatus configured to communicate on a data bus that is terminated at both ends with terminating resistors, the apparatus comprising:
a processor;
an electrical terminal for connecting the apparatus to the data bus;
a network termination element; and
a switch configured to selectively connect the electrical terminal to the network termination element, the switch being electronically controlled by executing computer program instructions in the processor.
