1. An intelligent electronic device (IED) comprising:
a housing;
at least one sensor disposed in the housing and coupled to at least one power line of an electrical distribution system, the at least one sensor configured to measure at least one parameter of the electrical distribution system and generate at least one analog signal indicative of the at least one parameter;
at least one analog-to-digital (A/D) converter disposed in the housing and configured to receive the at least one analog signal and convert the at least one analog signal to at least one digital signal;
at least one first processor disposed in the housing and configured to receive the at least one digital signal and calculate at least one power parameter of the electrical distribution system; and
a network communication card including at least one second processor and an Internet of Things (IoT) communication module disposed in the housing and coupled to a network, wherein the IoT communication module is configured to discover one or more devices coupled to the network,
wherein the network communication card is configured to send a list of all available resources of the IED to the one or more devices on the network without receiving a query, the list of all available resources including metering variables and any associated branches without specific values,
wherein the IED is configured to host a dashboard accessible by a remote user device, the dashboard including a graphical user interface that displays a representation of the IED, at least one parameter of the IED, a representation of the one or more devices and at least one parameter of the one or more devices, the graphical user interface further configured to enable a user to set at least one rule-based control parameter from the remote user device for controlling at least one first device based on at least one resource of the IED, the at least one second processor of the IED configured to generate at least one command based on the at least one rule-based control parameter based on the at least one resource of the IED exceeds a threshold and transmit the at least one command to the at least one first device via the IoT communication module of the IED,
wherein the network communication card is configured to receive a HEAD request from the at least one device requesting whether the IED has metering data useful to an operation of the device and the network communication card is configured to submit a HEAD response indicating whether the requested information is available without sending the actual information, wherein the HEAD response includes metering variables and any associated branches without specific values,
wherein the dashboard interface is configured to display the metering variables and any associated branches associated with the operation of the at least one device, and
wherein the information needed to generate the dashboard interface may be periodically sent to the dashboard by the device and the dashboard may actively request the information on a periodic basis without a request from the remote user device.
