               1. A computer-implemented method comprising:
            initiating, by an application, a self-checkout process at a self-checkout kiosk, the self-checkout kiosk comprising a platform scale in a packing area and a terminal scale outside of the packing area, the terminal scale configured for item weighing prior to packing, the platform scale configured for item weighing during or after packing, wherein the self-checkout kiosk is associated with a first bag reservoir, the first bag reservoir being adjacent to the packing area and comprising a riser and a hanger running from the riser, the hanger configured to hang a first type of bags;
                determining, by the application via a sensor, a deflection of the hanger in the first bag reservoir, the deflection comprising an angle change of the hanger relative to the riser;
                determining, by the application, that an empty bag is retrieved from the first bag reservoir, based on the deflection of the hanger in the first bag reservoir;
                identifying, by the application, a bag type for the empty bag based on the first bag reservoir, the bag type being predefined;
                identifying, by the application, a weight range of the empty bag based on the bag type, the weight range being predefined;
                determining, in real time by operation of one or more computer processors when executing the application, an allowed weight range of a combination of the empty bag and a desired item, based on the weight range of the empty bag, a weight of the desired item, and one or more measurement tolerances, the one or more measurement tolerances being predefined; and
                preventing, by the application, presence of the empty bag on the platform scale from causing a loss prevention alert to be generated when the desired item has been placed in the empty bag on the platform scale.
