1. An accessory mounting system for mounting an accessory on a vehicle, the accessory mounting system comprising:
a mounting assembly, comprising:
an elongated rail removably connectable to the vehicle, the elongated rail being provided with a slot extending therealong and opening on a top surface of the elongated rail;
at least two connectors slidably coupled to the elongated rail, each connector having a head portion adapted to slidably engage the slot of the elongated rail, and a shank portion extending from the head portion and vertically above the top surface of the elongated rail; and
a mounting fixture connectable to the at least two connectors and adapted to have a portion of the accessory be connected thereto, the mounting fixture being connected to the at least two connectors such that rotation of the mounting fixture relative to the elongated rail is prevented and such that moving the at least two connectors along the slot correspondingly displaces the mounting fixture along the elongated rail,
wherein the shank portion comprises a male connector, and wherein the mounting fixture comprises a female connector configured to be coupled to the male connector.
