1. A method of increasing the activity of mitochondria in a subject in need thereof comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a composition comprising ramie extract, wherein the ramie extract is from the root of Boehmeria nivea (L) Gaud, and the ramie extract is obtained by crushing the root of Boehmeria nivea (L) Gaud, soaking in water, and extracting at 60° C. with water for 12 hours.
