1. A memory module, comprising:
a first data storage location to store an expansion license, wherein the memory module operates with a base set of functions, and is configurable to operate with an expanded set of functions based on the expansion license; and
a second data storage location to store a first expansion capability certificate, the first expansion capability certificate being signed by a first information handling system and including a first subset of the expanded set of functions that are enabled by the first expansion capability certificate;
wherein the memory module is configured to determine that the memory module is installed into the first information handling system based on the first expansion capability certificate, and to enable the first subset of the expanded set of functions in response to determining that the memory module is installed into the first information handling system.
