1. An electric submersible pumping system configured for operation in downhole applications, the electric submersible pumping system comprising:
a motor;
a pump driven by the motor; and
a cable that provides electrical power to the motor, wherein the cable comprises:
a conductor; and
an insulator surrounding the conductor, wherein the insulator comprises:
a first layer;
a second layer surrounding the first layer;
an H2S scavenger within the first layer or the second layer of the insulator; and
an H2S reactant or mixture of reactants within the first layer or the second layer of the insulator; and
a sub-insulator layer between the conductor and the insulator.
