1. A telecommunication system, comprising:
an anchoring network device comprising an Access Transfer Control Function (ATCF) included in a terminating Internet Protocol (IP) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), the ATCF being configured to:
receive, from a calling terminal that is non-Enhanced Voice Services (EVS)-capable via an originating IMS, a first initiation request of a communication session, the first initiation request indicating:
a non-EVS media capability of the calling terminal; and
a called terminal that is EVS-capable;
determine a second initiation request based at least in part on the first initiation request, the second initiation request indicating an EVS Channel-Aware-mode (ChAw) codec; and
provide the second initiation request to the called terminal; and
a network gateway configured to modify a first packet, from a sending terminal, wherein the sending terminal is one of the calling terminal and the called terminal, to provide a second packet,
wherein:
the first packet is associated with a sending media capability;
the second packet is associated with a receiving media capability; and
the sending media capability is one, and the receiving media capability the other, of the first media capability and the second media capability.
