1. A tracking device, comprising:
a transmitter;
a controller communicatively connected to the transmitter and configured to determine a travel event associated with the tracking device; and
a set of independent sensors, at least one sensor of the independent sensors being configured to sense one or more conditions and output a signal associated with a transition of the tracking device between a first mode of operation and a second mode of operation;
wherein the controller is configured to control the transition of the tracking device from the second mode of operation to the first mode of operation in response to a determination that the travel event was sensed within a predetermined period of time in the second mode of operation,
wherein the controller is configured to control the transition of the tracking device from the first mode of operation to the second mode of operation in response to a determination that the travel event was not sensed within a predetermined period of time in the first mode of operation,
wherein the controller is configured to maintain the tracking device in the first mode in response to determining that the travel event was sensed within the predetermined period of time in the first mode of operation,
wherein when the tracking device is in the first mode of operation the controller is configured to cause the transmitter to transmit, at a time interval, information associated with the one or more conditions sensed by the at least one sensor, and
wherein when the tracking device is in the second mode of operation the controller is configured to cause the tracking device to operate at a lower level of power consumption than when the tracking device is in the first mode of operation.
