1. A thermal energy storage system, comprising:
a storage medium configured to store thermal energy generated by a conversion of input electrical energy from a renewable energy source having intermittent availability;
a heating element configured to thermally charge the storage medium by converting at least a portion of the input electrical energy to thermal energy and exposing radiation chambers of the storage medium to the thermal energy obtained from the heating element;
a fluid movement device configured to move gas through the storage medium and discharge the stored thermal energy from the storage medium into the gas;
a steam generator configured to receive the gas from the storage medium and to exchange heat from the gas with water from a water source to produce steam; and
a control system configured to:
receive target steam parameters;
obtain an inlet water temperature at an inlet of the steam generator; and
based on the target steam parameters and the inlet temperature, determine an initial flow rate for the gas received by the steam generator.
