1. An orthopedic implant comprising a porous metal surface and a hydroxyapatite layer disposed on at least part of the porous metal surface, the hydroxyapatite layer comprising gallium ions therein, wherein the hydroxyapatite layer is crystalline,
wherein the hydroxyapatite layer, when subjected to X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), produces a (002) XRD peak and a (112) XRD peak, and the (002) XRD peak has an intensity 1.5 to 10 times greater than the (112) XRD peak.
