1. An electrical connector with controlled impedance properties, the electrical connector compromising:
a barrel having a mating end, a center section, an inner wall, and a body end;
a center pin, coaxial with the barrel, and having a tip near, but not extending beyond, the mating end of the barrel;
a solid dielectric between the center pin and the barrel at the end of the barrel; and
a grounding spring, inside the barrel, forward of the dielectric, and electrically contacting the inner wall of the barrel;
wherein the barrel has a first inner diameter from the mating end to a first point, a second inner diameter from the first point to a second point, and a third inner diameter from the third point to the body end, the first inner diameter being less than the second inner diameter, and the second inner diameter being less than the third inner diameter.
