1. A snow thrower impeller assembly rotatably secured within an impeller housing of a snow thrower apparatus, comprising:
a support frame including a hub that defines an opening about an axis of rotation of an impeller assembly;
a plurality of blades including a first blade that extends outward from a first end of the first blade near the hub to a second end of the first blade near a perimeter of the impeller assembly, wherein the first blade defines a front surface oriented toward a direction of rotation of the impeller assembly and a rear surface oriented away from the direction of rotation of the impeller assembly; and
a wiper adjacent to the front surface or to the rear surface of the first blade and having a first edge, wherein the wiper is movably mounted to the front surface or to the rear surface of the first blade to enable substantially linear movement of the wiper a predefined distance along a direction toward and away from the perimeter of the impeller assembly, wherein the predefined distance defines an inner limit at which the first edge of the wiper is positioned inside the perimeter of the impeller assembly and an outer limit at which the first edge of the wiper is positioned beyond the perimeter of the impeller assembly.
