1. A method for ameliorating radiation-induced bystander effects (RIBE) in non-irradiated cells of a subject caused by exposure to radiation, comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of an agent that inhibits the protease activity of protein Cathepsin B (CTSB), wherein the agent is selected from: quercetin, isoquercetin, E64, CA074 and CA074Me.
