1. A device for implantation within a cerebral aneurysm, the device comprising:
a resilient mesh structure comprising a plurality of braided filaments, the mesh structure having a proximal region configured to be positioned over a neck of the aneurysm and a distal region sized and configured to be positioned within the aneurysm cavity, wherein the mesh structure has (a) a compressed state for delivery through an elongated shaft, and (b) an expanded state in which the mesh structure forms a bowl having an inner layer and an outer layer, wherein the inner and outer layers together form a sidewall of the bowl and meet at a circumferential fold at a distal end of the bowl, wherein the circumferential fold is disposed at a maximum diameter of the mesh structure in the expanded state and is configured to be positioned within the aneurysm cavity, and wherein opposing sides of the sidewall proximate to the circumferential fold are oriented parallel to one another; and
a marker band disposed at the proximal region of the mesh structure to secure the plurality of braided filaments relative to one another, wherein the outer layer has a proximal end at the marker band and extends continuously radially away from the marker band until terminating at the circumferential fold, and
wherein the marker band is configured to be positioned within or proximal of the aneurysm neck with at least a portion of the outer layer in apposition with an inner surface of the aneurysm wall.
