1. A method performed by a terminal in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
receiving, from a base station, a radio resource control (RRC) message including a higher layer parameter associated with a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) table and a higher layer parameter for a channel quality indicator (CQI) table;
identifying the CQI table, based on the higher layer parameter for the CQI table;
identifying the MCS table for a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), based on the higher layer parameter associated with the MCS table, wherein, in case that the higher layer parameter associated with the MCS table is related to a 1024-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), the identified MCS table includes an MCS table with a modulation order of 10;
receiving, from the base station via a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH), downlink control information (DCI) indicating an MCS value of the MCS table with the modulation order of 10;
receiving, from the base station via the PDSCH, downlink data; and
determining a transport block size associated with the PDSCH, based on the MCS value,
wherein, in case that the higher layer parameter for the CQI table indicates a CQI table for the 1024-QAM, the identified CQI table includes a set comprising a modulation scheme and a code rate, the set including: (256QAM, 948/1024), (1024QAM, 853/1024), and (1024QAM, 948/1024),
wherein the MCS table with the modulation order of 10 includes a first set comprising a modulation order and a target code rate, the first set including: (10, 805.5/1024), (10, 853/1024), (10, 900.5/1024), and (10, 948/1024),
wherein target code rates of 853/1024 and 948/1024 of the first set included in the MCS table with the modulation order of 10 are the same as code rates of 853/1024 and 948/1024 of the set associated with the 1024-QAM in the identified CQI table, respectively, and
wherein a target code rate of 805.5/1024 of the first set included in the MCS table with the modulation order of 10 corresponds to a spectral efficiency between a spectral efficiency corresponding to (256QAM, 948/1024) of the set included in the identified CQI table and a spectral efficiency corresponding to (1024QAM, 853/1024) of the set included in the identified CQI table.
