1. A method for generating a media assertion schedule for content aware monitoring of an output of a media system, the method comprising:
accessing a media program schedule indicating one or more media streams scheduled to be output and metadata associated with the one or more scheduled media streams;
determining one or more media assertion rules for generating one or more assertion checks for one or more of: the media program schedule, the one or more scheduled media streams and one or more expected signatures generated based on the scheduled media streams;
for each media assertion rule, determining if the media assertion rule is satisfied and one or more time intervals corresponding to the media assertion rule being satisfied and generating a corresponding one or more assertion checks including a timecode range corresponding to the one or more time intervals, wherein determining if the media assertion rule is satisfied comprises analyzing one or more of: the media program schedule, the accessed metadata and the one or more expected signatures generated based on the scheduled media streams; and
generating the media assertion schedule including the one or more assertion checks.
