1. A steganographic Benday pattern detection electronic validation machine comprising:
a camera positioned to capture a digital image of a lottery ticket having a steganographic Benday pattern printed in a background area of the lottery ticket;
a digital processor; and
a memory device that stores a plurality of instructions, which when executed by the digital processor, cause the digital processor to:
orient the captured digital image to an X/Y grid,
determine an edge of the lottery ticket in the captured digital image,
align the edge of the lottery ticket in the captured digital image with the X/Y grid,
analyze the captured digital image for an absence of an apparent Benday pattern,
create a modified digital image to reveal the steganographic Benday pattern by analyzing the captured digital image for an apparent Benday pattern printed in the background area of the lottery ticket in any of a plurality of different colors, and
verify that the captured digital image did not include an apparent Benday pattern and that the modified digital image includes the apparent Benday pattern, thereby validating the authenticity of the lottery ticket.
