1. A method of determining occupancy of an area, comprising:
loading, by the processor, a baseline ambient light level from a memory;
receiving, by a processor, a first signal from an occupancy sensor, wherein the first signal includes a first value indicating a first, baseline distance to a first surface and a second value indicating a first, baseline infrared signature of the area;
receiving, by the processor, a second signal from the occupancy sensor, wherein the second signal includes a third value indicating a second distance to a second surface, a fourth value indicating a second infrared signature of the area, and a fifth value indicating a first ambient light level;
determining, by the processor, that the area is occupied based at least in part on the second infrared signature being different than the first, baseline infrared signature;
determining, by the processor, that the area is occupied based at least in part on the second distance being different from the first, baseline distance;
determining, by the processor, that the area is occupied based at least in part on the first ambient light level being different than the baseline ambient light level; and
setting, by the processor, a status of the area to occupied in response to the second distance being different from the first, baseline distance, the second infrared signature being different than the first, baseline infrared signature, and the first ambient light level being different than the baseline ambient light level.
