1. A process of making a laminate comprising the steps of:
(I) providing an epoxy terminated polyester that is a reaction product consisting of
(a) a carboxylic acid terminated polyester,
(b) a diglycidyl ether of 1,4-butanediol, and
(c) optional solvent;
(II) providing a curative composition at a mix ratio of the epoxy terminated polyester component to the curative composition from 100:15 to 100:40, the curative composition is a reaction product consisting of
(a) a dimer acid, and
(b) a diamine selected from the group consisting of ethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine, triethylenetriamine, tetraethylenepentamine, piperazine, aminoethylpiperazine, isophorone diamine, xylylenediamine, and mixtures thereof;
(III) coating a first film substrate with the epoxy terminated polyester;
(IV) coating a second film substrate with the curative composition; and
(V) laminating the first film and second film together;
wherein the epoxy terminated polyester on the first film contacts the curative composition on the second film;
wherein an in situ reaction occurs between the epoxy terminated polyester on the first film and the curative composition on the second film to form a bond between the first film and the second film, the bond having an adhesive strength from 0.5N/15 mm to 4 N/15 mm after 14 days cure; and
wherein a bonded laminate structure consisting of a first film and a second film with a bond layer of laminating adhesive disposed in between the first film and the second film is formed, and the laminating adhesive (1) is free of isocyanate and is free of bisphenol-A and (2) consists of (i) the epoxy terminated polyester and (ii) the curative composition.
