1. A system for aligning a medical tool to a desired orientation relative to a patient, the system comprising:
a medical alignment device that includes:
an orientation sensor;
a processor configured to:
simulate a positioning of the medical tool using at least one image of a bone of the patient to determine a desired alignment angle of the medical tool relative to the bone;
determine an orientation of the medical alignment device using the orientation sensor;
and
output a notification when the orientation of the medical alignment device is such that the medical alignment device is positioned at or about the desired alignment angle of the medical tool relative to the bone, wherein the notification includes one or more of a sound, a vibration, or a graphical indicator;
and
an attachment apparatus to attach the medical alignment device to the medical tool, wherein the attachment apparatus includes:
a monolithic upper portion configured to securably receive the medical alignment device, the monolithic upper portion defined by a first side wall comprising a first finger profile, a second side wall comprising a second finger profile, a base wall, and a main support surface,
the base wall including a base alignment surface configured to be adjacent a first portion of the medical alignment device;
the first side wall including a side alignment surface configured to be adjacent a second portion of the medical alignment device, the first side wall extending perpendicularly to the base wall;
the second side wall including a side alignment surface configured to be adjacent a third portion of the medical alignment device, the second side wall extending parallel with the first side wall and perpendicularly to the base wall; and
the first and second finger profiles each comprising at least two concave surfaces shaped to receive at least two fingers of a user when held, wherein when the medical alignment device is securably received in the monolithic upper portion, a clamping force is produced between the first and second side walls which compresses the medical alignment device and slightly bends the attachment apparatus;
and
an alignment support with an opening aligned parallel or perpendicular relative to the base wall, and wherein the opening of the alignment support is configured to align with a portion of the medical tool, and wherein the medical alignment device provides the notification when the medical alignment device aligned with the medical tool is provided at the desired alignment angle.
