1. A gaming system comprising:
a display device;
an audio output device;
a player audio device communication mechanism;
a processor; and
a memory device that stores a plurality of instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:
during a first period, simultaneously cause:
a display, by the display device, of sporting event visual content associated with a sporting event, and
a display, by the display device, of wagering game visual content associated with a wagering game;
responsive to detecting a sporting event related triggering event that comprises an occurrence of an event in the sporting event, during a second period:
automatically cause a display, by the display device, of the sporting event visual content to be of a size that is greater than the wagering game visual content, and
automatically communicate audio signals, via the player audio device communication mechanism, to a player audio device communicatively connected to the player audio device communication mechanism, to cause an output, by the player audio device, of sporting event audio content associated with the sporting event visual content; and
responsive to detecting a wagering game related triggering event that comprises an occurrence of an event in a play of the wagering game, during a third period:
automatically cause a display, by the display device, of the wagering game visual content to be of a size that is greater than the sporting event visual content, and
automatically communicate audio signals, via the player audio device communication mechanism, to the player audio device communicatively connected to the player audio device communication mechanism, to cause an output, by the player audio device, of wagering game audio content associated with the wagering game visual content.
