1. A physiological monitor comprising:
a sensor port, the sensor port configured to receive a sensor port connector communicatively coupled to a physiological sensor; and
a processor board communicatively coupled to the sensor port, the processor board comprising a board digital signal processor (DSP) configured to execute a plurality of firmware instructions residing on the processor board, the plurality of firmware instructions comprising one or more executable instructions that, when executed by the board DSP, cause the board DSP to calculate a first set of physiological parameters in response to a sensor signal received from the physiological sensor through the sensor port connector,
wherein the sensor port is further configured to receive at least one of a plurality of upgrade modules in lieu of the sensor port connector, wherein each of the plurality of upgrade modules can be read to determine a remaining number of available upgrades of a respective upgrade module, wherein at least one of the plurality of upgrade modules comprise one or more executable instructions to, based at least in part on a determination that the remaining number of available upgrades is not zero, enable the board DSP to calculate a second set of physiological parameters in response to the sensor signal received from the physiological sensor through the sensor port connector.
