1. A honeycomb extrusion die, comprising:
a first metal plate having a first upstream surface and a first downstream surface, the first metal plate formed of a first material having a first elastic modulus and comprising a plurality of pins formed between a plurality of slots, the plurality of pins and the plurality of slots defining a discharge face for the honeycomb extrusion die at the first downstream surface of the first metal plate;
a second plate having a second upstream surface and a second downstream surface, wherein the second plate is joined at the second downstream surface to the first upstream surface of the first metal plate, the second plate being formed of a second material having a second elastic modulus; and
a plurality of feed holes extending from the second upstream surface of the second plate through the honeycomb extrusion die into communication with the plurality of slots,
wherein the second material comprises a metal matrix composite material or a ceramic material, and
wherein the second elastic modulus is greater than the first elastic modulus.
