1. A method comprising:
encoding a video,
wherein the video comprises a first image and a second image,
wherein the first image is displayed at a first time,
wherein the second image is displayed at a second time,
wherein the first image comprises a first array of pixel colors,
wherein the first array of pixel colors encode first luminances,
wherein the first luminances lie within a first luminance range,
wherein the second image comprises a second array of pixel colors,
wherein the second array of pixel colors encode second luminances,
wherein the second luminances lie within the first luminance range,
wherein the first image has a first characteristic luminance,
wherein the first characteristic luminance summarizes at least a portion of the first luminances by applying an equation to at least a portion of the first luminances,
wherein the second image has a second characteristic luminance,
wherein the second characteristic luminance summarizes at least a portion of the second luminances by applying the equation to at least a portion of the second luminances,
wherein the first characteristic luminance is different from the second characteristic luminance;
coding the first array of pixel colors;
coding the second array of pixel colors; and
coding descriptive data,
wherein the descriptive data comprises a first set of parameter values and a second set of parameter values,
wherein the first set of parameter values specifies first luminance mapping function,
wherein the first set of parameter values comprises at least one parameter value,
wherein the descriptive data comprises a second set of parameter values,
wherein the second set of parameter values specifies a second luminance mapping function,
wherein the second set of parameter values comprises at least one parameter value,
wherein the first luminance mapping function is arranged to map the first luminances to third luminances,
wherein the third luminances are luminances of pixels of a third image,
wherein the third luminances lie within a second luminance range,
wherein the third image corresponds to the first image,
wherein the third image is displayed at the first time,
wherein the second luminance range is different from the first luminance range,
wherein the second luminance mapping function is arranged to map the second luminances to fourth luminances,
wherein the fourth luminances are luminances of pixels of a fourth image,
wherein the fourth luminances lie within the second luminance range,
wherein the fourth image corresponds to the second image,
wherein the fourth image is displayed at the second time,
wherein the first luminance mapping function has at least one different mathematical property than the second luminance mapping function; and
encoding the first image, the second image and the descriptive data into the video.
