1. An automated process performed by a data processing system associated with a 5G wireless network, the data processing system comprising a processor, a data storage, and an interface to the wireless network, the wireless network comprising an operating support system (OSS) and a cell site remote from the OSS and the data processing system, the cell site having one or more radio units (RUs) and a cell site router (CSR), the automated process comprising:
obtaining, via the interface to the wireless network and from a first RU of the one or more RUs, a MAC address and a serial number;
associating, by the processor, a CSR port with the first RU based on the obtained MAC address;
determining, by the processor, an expected RU identifier based on the associated CSR port;
obtaining, via the interface to the wireless network and from the OSS, an RU label based on the obtained serial number;
determining an actual RU identifier based on the RU label;
comparing, by the processor, the actual RU identifier to the expected RU identifier; and
reporting, by the processor, an RU misconnection in response to the actual RU identifier mismatching the expected RU identifier, comprising providing a real-time alert to a human operator identifying the RU misconnection.
