1. A hybrid document, comprising:
a flexible document having visible markings; and
a component embedded in or on the flexible document, the component comprising:
a component substrate, wherein the component substrate is separate from and more rigid than the flexible document;
one or more inorganic light-emitting diodes separate from the component substrate and that are more rigid than the flexible document disposed on the component substrate, wherein the one or more inorganic light-emitting diodes each comprise a fractured or separated LED tether;
a controller comprising an integrated circuit separate from the component substrate and that is more rigid than the flexible document disposed on the component substrate and electrically connected to the one or more inorganic light-emitting diodes for controlling the one or more inorganic light-emitting diodes;
a power input connection disposed on the component substrate and electrically connected to (i) the controller, (ii) the one or more inorganic light-emitting diodes, or (iii) both (i) and (ii);
a fractured or separated component tether protruding from and attached to a side of the component substrate as a consequence of micro-transfer printing the component to the flexible document;
a piezoelectric power source activated by pressure or movement that generates charge and has an area no greater than 0.5 cm2 disposed on the component substrate and connected to the power input connection; and
a power convertor to convert the power provided from the power input connection to a form that is used by at least one of the controller and the inorganic light-emitting diodes, the power convertor comprising a capacitor,
wherein the controller or the one or more light-emitting diodes or both have a length or a width no greater than 50 microns and less than a length or width of the flexible document.
