1. An extended reality (XR) head-mounted device (HMD), comprising:
input/output (I/O) circuitry; and
control circuitry configured to:
provide an application to a user wearing the XR HMD, wherein the application is associated with an input type;
detect a plurality of devices proximate to the XR HMD;
determine respective input capabilities for each device of the plurality of devices;
select a first device of the plurality of devices to connect to the XR HMD based on determining that the respective input capabilities of the first device match the input type associated with the application;
wherein the I/O circuitry is configured to establish a connection between the first device and the XR HMD; and
wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
cause the first device to be unlocked;
receive an indication of input from the first device; and
based on the received indication of input, perform an action in relation to the application being provided via the XR HMD.
