1. A radar system adapted to emit a very high instantaneous bandwidth radar signal, the radar system comprising:
a first transmit channel, the first transmit channel comprises:
a first local oscillator (LO) adapted to generate a first LO signal at a first LO frequency; and
a first mixer adapted to mix a first analog intermediate frequency (IF) signal with the first LO signal from the first LO to form a first analog radio frequency (RF) signal, the first analog RF signal having a first frequency band below the first LO frequency, to form a second analog RF signal, the second analog RF signal having a second frequency band above the first LO frequency, and to output the first and second analog RF signals; and
a second transmit channel, the second transmit channel comprises:
a second LO adapted to generate a second LO signal at a second LO frequency, the second LO frequency greater than the first LO frequency; and
a second mixer adapted to mix a second analog IF signal with the second LO signal from the second LO to form a third analog RF signal, the third analog RF signal having a third frequency band below the second LO frequency, to form a fourth analog RF signal, the fourth analog RF signal having a fourth frequency band above the second LO frequency, and to output the third and fourth analog RF signals;
wherein the first and second LO frequencies are selected such that the second frequency band and the third frequency band are adjacent to one another or partially overlap with one another and the first LO signal does not leak into the third analog RF signal and the second LO signal does not leak into the second analog RF signal; and
wherein the radar signal is based upon the second and third analog RF signals, a frequency band of the radar signal including the second and third frequency bands.
