1. A system for predicting failure of a resistive heating element of an air data probe, the system comprising:
an electrical power source that provides electrical operating power to the resistive heating element;
an electrical sensor that senses leakage current of the resistive heating element; and
a data recorder that logs the leakage current sensed during an initial startup timeframe from initial provision of the electrical operating power to the resistive heating element so as to generate a leakage-current startup profile, in which leakage current is recorded from a time at which the electrical power source is powered on till at least until the leakage current reaches a steady-state; and
a remaining-life prediction engine that determines a moisture ingress condition of the heating element and estimates a remaining life of the resistive heating element based on the leakage-current startup profile, wherein the remaining-life prediction engine is configured to determine the following moisture content conditions: i) before moisture ingress, ii) with moisture ingress, and iii) after moisture ingress.
