1. An extruded thermoplastic lumber product, integrally formed and comprising:
a core comprising a blend of a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) thermoplastic material and chopped strand glass fibers, wherein at least 60% of the initial average length of said chopped strand glass fibers is retained after extrusion;
a plurality of elongated continuous fiber reinforcements embedded axially within and coextensive with said core, wherein said continuous fiber reinforcements are pre-tensioned and pultruded during extrusion; and
a co-extruded capstock layer forming at least one outer surface of said lumber.
