1. A method, comprising:
receiving sound signals at first and second hearing devices in a bilateral hearing device system configured to be worn by a recipient;
obtaining, at a processing module, bilateral sound information, wherein the bilateral sound information comprises a first set of sound information associated with the sound signals received at the first hearing device and a second set of sound information associated with the sound signals received at the second hearing device;
at the processing module, selecting, based on the bilateral sound information, a set of sound processing channels for use by both of the first and second hearing devices in stimulating first and second ears, respectively, of the recipient;
at the first hearing device, stimulating the first ear of the recipient using stimulation generated from the sound signals received at the first hearing device and processed in at least the set of sound processing channels by the first hearing device; and
at the second hearing device, stimulating the second ear of the recipient using stimulation generated from the sound signals received at the second hearing device and processed in at least the set of sound processing channels by the second hearing device.
