1. A system for loading flowable biomaterial into an instrument for subsequent delivery into an intervertebral disc space, the system comprising:
a loading tray having a body that comprises:
a floor surface configured to receive the biomaterial;
a plurality of sidewalls at a periphery of the floor surface, the plurality of sidewalls and the floor surface cooperatively defining a tray volume, at least one of the plurality of sidewalls defining at least one access opening extending therethrough; and
at least one slot elongate along a longitudinal direction, the at least one slot recessed from the floor surface along a first vertical direction that is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction, the at least one slot being open to the tray volume and in communication with the at least one access opening, wherein the plurality of sidewalls extend beyond the floor surface along a second vertical direction that is opposite the first vertical direction, such that at least a portion of the tray volume extends beyond the floor surface and the at least one slot in the second vertical direction; and
an instrument having a portion that is elongate and is configured for insertion through the at least one access opening to within the at least one elongate slot along the longitudinal direction, the portion defining a channel, wherein the channel is configured such that, when the portion resides in the at least one slot, the channel is elongate along the longitudinal direction and is orientable so as to be open to the tray volume such that an opening of the channel is elongate along the longitudinal direction, whereby at least the portion of the tray volume extends beyond the at least one slot and the opening of the channel in the second vertical direction.
