1. A method for manufacturing an article of footwear, the method comprising:
utilizing a circular knitting process to form a knitted component by knitting a first knitted portion and a second knitted portion of a sock, wherein the first knitted portion is formed as a single layer, and wherein the second knitted portion includes two coextensive layers located within the sock that extend along at least a portion of a length of the sock, wherein the second knitted portion corresponds to a tongue area of the article of footwear and the first knitted portion corresponds to at least a toe area of the article of footwear, and wherein the second knitted portion comprises reciprocally knitted courses; and
incorporating the knitted component as an upper of the article of footwear, wherein a sole area of the first knitted portion is secured to a sole structure of the article of footwear.
