1. An ion capturing device comprising a containment apparatus and a substance, wherein the substance is located within the containment apparatus, wherein the substance captures one or more ions, and wherein the substance comprises a compound of formula M′M″xA2B3O12 in NZP form where
M′ comprises a lithium ion, sodium ion, potassium ion, hydrogen ion, hydronium ion, rubidium ion, cesium ion, magnesium ion, calcium ion, strontium ion, barium ion, or a combination thereof;
M″ comprises a sodium ion, potassium ion, hydrogen ion, hydronium ion, or a combination;
A comprises tin, germanium, titanium, zirconium, hafnium, aluminum, chromium, nobium, tantalum, scandium, or combinations thereof;
B comprises phosphorous, silicon, aluminum, sulfur, or mixtures thereof; and “x” has a value of 0 to about 3.
